Stephanie Sutton
a native from Kansas City MO, Stephanie began her journey at 18 years old attending the Art Institute of California San Francisco in 2008 pursuing her attempting BS in Media Arts Animation. She later made a change and transferred to Spelman College where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art finishing in 2012. Her strength is in drawing using graphite and charcol as well as forms of design within her work creating texture and some "pop" art that plays with vibrant use of color. being a dancer all her life but took it to the next level for 7 years, she fuses her art alongside with her dancing bringing performance art.
Stephanie still has her heart set on the field of animation focusing on traditional, stop motion/fabrication and eventually rotoscoping. Her vision is to keep these styles of animation alive and active.
Currently, her focus is painting a series that focuses on women in the street dance culture as well as the hip hop culture. these paintings consists of vibrant colors, elongation of figures, black figures, different hair textures and more. this series resonates with me as a woman of color who is active in this culture. this series represents some of the insecurities of women who are powerful and shows the beauty of who they really are when they are in their moment in this art. these women represent the indigenous, ambition, fearlessness in their inner beings in a unconscious world.
also occasionally she will work at a glass studio called janke glass in the old forthward area where she makes and learns to create glass jewelry that consists of stud and dangled earrings as well as beaded necklaces and bracelets. Most of the earrings are made from scraps of glass and found objects. her art brand brassyartz reflects those who are vibrant, confident, unique and is their own self. whatever earring is created is made for a person to which is drawn to by their style. brassy makes herself known for the world to see.
With that said, Her goal is to become a great artist focusing on women of color, entertaininment/performance art and to continue her love for dance participating in battles/competitions. she seeks to inspire and eventually teach giving back to others mostly young girls in inner cities and across the globe.
